Cars with start-stop need an AGM or EFB battery, and many also need the new battery registered to the car. We match the technology your car left the factory with and fit it where the car is parked.
Short answer
A start-stop car must be fitted with an AGM or EFB battery. If the original is AGM, the replacement must be AGM. An EFB can be upgraded to AGM. A conventional battery in a start-stop car fails early and can disable the start-stop function.

Where the car has a battery management system, the new battery is registered so it charges correctly.

Battery types
The type matters as much as the size. Fitting the wrong technology to a start-stop car shortens the new battery’s life.
Conventional cars
The standard maintenance-free battery in most cars without start-stop. Lead-calcium plates sit in liquid electrolyte. Reliable and widely available in Japanese, Korean and American sizes.
Not suitable for start-stop cars.
Entry start-stop
An Enhanced Flooded Battery has reinforced plates that cope with frequent engine restarts. It is fitted from the factory in many smaller start-stop cars.
Can be upgraded to AGM, never downgraded to a standard battery.
Start-stop and high demand
Absorbent Glass Mat batteries hold the electrolyte in glass-fibre mats. They recharge faster and tolerate deep cycling, which suits cars with start-stop, energy recovery and heavy electronics.
A car that left the factory with AGM must get AGM again.
Low-voltage battery
Electric and hybrid cars still use a small low-voltage battery to wake the car and run its computers. Some are ordinary 12 V units, others are model-specific.

No. A conventional battery is not built for constant restarts and will fail early. Start-stop cars need EFB or AGM, matched to what the manufacturer fitted.
The car keeps charging as if the old, worn battery were still fitted. That can overcharge or undercharge the new battery and shorten its life, and start-stop may stay disabled.

The car switches start-stop off when the battery is too weak to restart the engine reliably. It is often the first sign that the battery is near the end of its life.
