Gas alone is the fix when the system is slightly low and still holds pressure. The technician reads both pressures and holds a vacuum first. If the vacuum does not hold, there is a leak, and gas added on top would only last a short time.
Older cars use R134a and many newer models use R1234yf. The type is printed on a sticker under the bonnet. The two gases must never be mixed, so tell us the model and year and the technician brings the right one.
