EV and hybrid auxiliary
The Tesla relies on a low-voltage auxiliary battery to wake the car and power its computers. The type varies by model year, so we confirm before attending and tell you honestly if it needs the service centre.

A Tesla has no starter motor, yet it still needs a low-voltage battery to wake the computers, unlock the doors and close the contactors on the main pack. Older cars use a 12V lead-acid battery; newer ones use a 16V lithium-ion unit. We confirm which by model year, since not every Tesla low-voltage battery can be replaced at the roadside.

Earlier Model S, Model X, Model 3 and Model Y cars use a 12V lead-acid battery that wears out like any other.
Newer cars moved to a 16V lithium-ion low-voltage battery, and the changeover point depends on the model and build date.
The low-voltage battery sits under the front trunk trim, and a completely flat one prevents the front trunk from opening in the normal way.
The Cybertruck uses a 48V low-voltage system, which is different again from both earlier designs.

FAQ
Short, direct answers. Message us if yours is not here.
Yes, for Tesla cars that use the 12V lead-acid battery we can replace it where the car is parked. Cars with the 16V lithium-ion low-voltage battery are different and may need Tesla service. Tell us the model and year and we will confirm.
A flat low-voltage battery is the usual cause, and the car can often be woken with an external 12V supply. On many models, terminals behind the front tow-eye cover release the front trunk so the battery can be reached and supported or replaced.
The model year is the main guide. As a general rule, cars built before the 2021 to 2022 changeover have 12V lead-acid and later ones have 16V lithium-ion, but it varies by model and factory. We confirm from your build date or by inspection.
Send your location, car make, model and year, plus a short description of the problem. We check battery availability and confirm the next steps.
