Start-stop on a MINI
Recent MINI models with start-stop need an EFB or AGM battery. We match the technology your car was built with, because a conventional battery will not last in a start-stop system.

MINI is engineered by BMW, and the battery follows BMW rules: AGM on anything with start-stop, a sensor on the negative terminal, and registration after replacement. Where it sits depends on the generation. Some hatch models have it under a cover near the windscreen, while the Countryman and several others carry it in the boot. We confirm when you call.

A new battery should be registered so the charging system resets its ageing calculation.
If the capacity or type is changed from the original, the car also needs to be coded to the new specification.
Engine-bay batteries on the hatch sit under a plastic cowl cover that has to come off first.
The electric Cooper and Aceman keep a 12V battery for their control units.

FAQ
Short, direct answers. Message us if yours is not here.
Yes, a MINI should have its new battery registered. The car adjusts charging as a battery ages, and registration tells it to start again for a new one. Without it the new battery can be overcharged or undercharged. We do it on site.
On most Countryman models it is in the boot, under the floor panel. Jump-start terminals are under the bonnet, so a flat car can be powered from the front. We replace it from the boot and reconnect the vent tube and sensor.
We advise against it on a MINI with start-stop. The charging system is set up for AGM, and a standard battery wears out quickly and may gas in a boot-mounted position. We replace AGM with AGM of the same size and capacity.
Send your location, car make, model and year, plus a short description of the problem. We check battery availability and confirm the next steps.
